So … I’ve kinda outgrown my in-home studio and have been considering my options. But, it didn’t make much sense to buy a building in town (I am solidly against renting/leasing of any kind) and commute everyday. So, enter Plan B …

On our farm, we have a 1930 farmhouse. My father-in-law was actually born there. But since the 1970′s (I think), it’s really only been used to store junk. A LOT of junk. So much junk I don’t want to show you the inside.

But under all the junk is a little gem – an Arts & Crafts style cottage with beautiful original woodwork and hardwood floors begging to be refinished. The original wood stove is still in place as well.

So, I’ve decided to restore it and use it as a studio.

This week, I began the process of cleaning out the inside. Over the winter, I’ll do as much as I can (winter being somewhat hindering to painting in an unheated building), with the bulk of the work planned for spring and summer, in time for a fall 2010 opening.

The old greenhouse and junk will all be cleared away, to be replaced with a cute little porch. It’s all surrounded on two sides by lilac bushes, on one side by caragana and by raspberries on the north side. They’ll have to be torn out, for the most part, but some stuff will be replanted.

I’ll add photos of the inside once I’m finished clearing out all the junk. It’s going to be a long, fun process! I’ve done a lot of renovating in my life, but a restoration will be something different, and I’m excited about it.
